Prevent screen rotation on Android

Question

Because I'm starting an AsyncTask, which is restarted by screen rotation, I have one of my activities that I would like to stop rotating.

If the user is violently shaking his phone, is there a way to tell this activity "DO NOT ROTATE the screen"?

Add

android:screenOrientation="portrait" 

or

 android:screenOrientation="landscape" 

to the <activity> element/s in the manifest and you're done.
