What Kind of Files IOC Container can Read other than XML directly or Indirectly

The configuration metadata is nothing but bean definitions. BeanDefinitions are provided in the form of an XML file, annotations, or a Java config class. 

Forms of metadata with the Spring container are XML-based configuration, annotation-based configuration, and Java-based configuration.

Understood the purpose of Configuration metadata i.e for bean definition. 

However, I wanna know whether IOC reads only and only XML file format (xyz.xml)?

Want to Know the different  File Format other than XML?

Anyways, I searched on the Web and came across, XYZ.PROPERTY file can be read by XML and ultimately XML file is read by IOC indirectly another file format IOC understand.
