Command to copy file from desktop to hdfs

Hello, Am learning Hive, Could you please give me steps to copy "emp" file with 5 records from my desktop to hdfs?Thanks.

You can use either of the below commands to copy files from your local to hdfs,

hadoop fs -put /path/in/linux  /hdfs/path

or 

hadoop fs -copyFromLocal /path/in/linux  /hdfs/path
