Multiple tabs in Selenium WebDriver

I am using Selenium WebDriver, and I wanted to know whether it is possible to use multiple tabs at the same time or not, because I don't want to use multiple browser instances. If it is not possible to do so then how can I switch between individual tabs, that is running parallelly?
