Why not run my own MPP data warehouse cluster on Amazon EC2 instead of Amazon Redshift? What factors should I consider before choosing between my own database on EC2 instance and redshift?

How is redshift any better?

It's too much work to manage and run your own database on EC2. Instead, Amazon Redshift automatically handles many of the time-consuming tasks associated with managing your own data warehouse.

It handles setup, data durability, scaling that you might require, automatic updates and patching. To know more you can refer to this form AWS Documentation - Why use Redshift?
