There are two faces of a coin. Similarly there are both pros and cons related to Government job.

Pros:-

Job Security

Better Facilities

Inevitable salary increment

More number of Holidays

Respect

Less stress

Cons:-

Quality of work

Everything is conventional

Less competition

Reservation system

Poor work ethics

Outdated technology

For both of the options first of all you need to have patience . Getting government job is not easy to get because reservation criteria over there plays a major role, and it takes longer period of time to come up with the result of every exam. Job security matters but at the end of the day you should think that what new things did you come up with. Basically in government jobs chances of changing your positions will be stagnant and it is hardly possible that your skill  will be developed so I would suggest that go with private job if you want to learn , work on it  and create something new with it.
