The GPU-based compute instances are preferred for working with AI/ML as they provide greater throughput and performance benefits because they are designed for performing parallel processing using thousands of specialized cores per GPU, as comapred to CPUs offering sequential processing with a less number of cores. In addition, the developers get the benefits to built hundreds of GPU-optimized scientific applications such as on quantum chemistry, molecular dynamics, meteorology, etc. The research in the field indicates that over 75% of the most popular HPC applications provide built-in support for GPUs. This way GPU based instances are preferred.
