Private ethereum network account balance is zero

Question

Can you help me to find out why private ethereum network genesis block account balance is zero?

There are two reasons due to which ethers might not be added to your account.

• You might have not created an account
• You might not have specified the correct address

To successfully add ether to an account, you have to create an account first. You can use this command:

$ geth --datadir ./datadir account new

After running it, you will be displayed the account address. You this address in the genesis file and start the blockchain. It should work.

I had created a new account but didn't note down the address. How to add ether to that account without knowing the address?

Hey Mihir. You can add ethers without knowing the account address. But you can find the account address. To list the accounts, run the following command:

$ geth account list

This will list all the accounts and now you can use the address from the list.
