The main job of a Database Administrator is to make sure the Database is running fine and keep it well maintained. For this, he will have to install the required software, upgrade the software and take care of the maintenance.

They should identify the weakness of the Database and solve these issues. Should take care of Backup and Recovery process. Regular backup is important and if the Database crashes, immediate recovery should be made.
