Replace comma with a period in data cleaning using R

Question

I have a variable called with age which is represented with commas like 22,7 instaed of 22.7. I would like to replace this comma with a period. How do I do it?

You can use the scan function in the following manner

scan(text = "22,7 18,5 25,4", dec = ",")
#Read 3 items
#[1] 22.7 18.5 25.4


y <- c("22,7", "18,5", "25,4")

scan(textConnection(y), dec = ",")
