How do you deal with unexpected changes in client personnel

0 votes
I'm working on a project, and one thing that keeps shaking things up is when the client's key people change. Just as we get aligned with one person, a new stakeholder steps in with different ideas or priorities, and it throws things off track. How do you handle these transitions smoothly and keep the project moving forward without too much disruption? Would love to hear any advice!

While walking through changes in client leadership can get bumpy, here are some strategies to help you snake your way through the transition.

Get in Axle Before It Dérives – Expect changes to happen, but have a plan to bring new stakeholders up to speed quickly. Keep clear documentation.

  • Re-establish Alignment – Arrange an introduction meeting with the new individual, familiarize them with their priorities, and brief them on the progress and objectives of the project to bring them onboard.

  • Show Value Early – Showcase quick wins and critical milestones to establish trust and illustrate the significance of the project.

  • Maintain Communication Open – Promote open communication to understand any concerns or new expectations before they become roadblocks.

  • Remain Flexible but Strict – Be ready for reasonable modifications but keep the project's core goals unscathed to avoid repeated re-adjustments.

  • Leverage Internal Champions – Work with long-standing client-side colleagues who can help bridge the transition and maintain continuity.

While adjusting to new teams can take time and patience, it does ensure that getting it done right often builds further relationship strength and carries the project through to fruition.
