How can I control the size of points in an R scatterplot

plot(variable, type='o' , pch=5, cex=.3)
The pch argument controls the type of figure which is placed in a specific point. For eg, you can have circles, triangles, squares etc.
The cex argument manages the amount by which the chosen symbol is magnified or reduced
