Android new Bottom Navigation bar or BottomNavigationView

The newest Google Photos app used the newly released guidelines. Understand nothing about the new Bottom Navigation Bar. I looked over the new support lib but found nothing.

unable to locate any official examples.

What is the new Bottom bar used for? Don't want to customise anything.
