Experience in working as DevOps Engineer

Question

I'm going to start my career as DevOps engineer and it would be nice to know from a few experienced people about their experience, challenges they've faced and how did they get over it and most important I would like to know a few key things that I need to keep in mind before i start this new career.

I've been working as a DevOps Engineer from the past 5 years now. I would like you to keep the following things in mind:

1. Start Cross Training now

2. Build the skills for the job you want in the job you have

3. Prove that you can do lot in little time

4. Develop your personal brand with community involvement

5. Be curious and demonstrate empathy

I am working in a start-up which was very stubborn to follow the DevOps culture. These are the few challenges I faced as a DevOps Engineer:

1.  Overcoming the Dev versus Ops mentality
2. Moving from legacy infrastructure to microservices
3. Too much focus on tools
4. Resistance to change
5. Dev and Ops toolset clashes
