Standard Deviation in R Seems to be Returning the Wrong Answer - Am I Doing Something Wrong

An easy illustration of standard deviation calculation:

The result of d - c(2,4,4,4,5,5,7,9) sd(d) is

[1] 2.13809, however the result is 2, when calculated by hand. What do I not see here?
