Best way to unselect a select in jQuery

What is the best way, using jQuery, to elegantly unselect the option?

The correct approaches are either . val([]) or . prop("selected", false) -- scroll down. JQuery must've fixed this, It's working perfect for me in IE8 using JQuery 1.7.
