I started practising building EOS smart contracts on my Windows 10 machine not long ago. For this, I needed to install a Linux subsystem for Windows and Docker, among other things. I observed some pretty serious speed issues in the previous couple of days, and when I looked for the culprit in my task manager, I saw Vmmem eating up 1.8 GB of ram (which is quite a lot considering I have only 8GB on my laptop)
I did some Googling and discovered that this tool deals with virtual machines and the like, as well as Docker. I didn't have Docker Desktop or Ubuntu open at the time of this screenshot, so I disabled the "Start Docker when you log in" setting and rebooted my computer, but the software is still eating up my RAM. As you might see, keeping this running in the background isn't worth it for me because EOS Development is a side project for me, and I don't need to use Docker too often. It would be a pity if I had to give up this 'passion' due to performance concerns, so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
