Scripting Languages used with Selenium tool for Automation Testing

Question

I was told to study automation testing using Selenium tool. Can you guys help me in knowing that what are the scripting languages I should get in touch so that I can effectively and efficiently use the tool to give the very best output of mine. This will help me a lot in going in proper direction.

You should have good knowledge on HTML and Xpath to work with the pages and understand how they work i.e. how to fetch the xpath of it. You don’t need high level of skills in scripting. Little knowledge on JavaScript will help you also.Selenium natively speaks HTML, but you can write test cases in any of the following languages :

• C#
• Java
• Perl
• PHP
• Python
• Ruby

There are many scripting languages supported by Selenium webdriver; But, most popularly Java & Python is used now a days.

Hello @Ashit Mani, Its true that mostly Java and Python are used for testing using Selenium Webdriver. The good thing about selenium is that its not just restricted to Java and as @nsv999 has mentioned many other languages also supports Selenium.

The biggest advantage of Selenium is that you can write your Selenium Test Cases in any scripting language, be it Java, Python, C#, Ruby, Perl etc. So if you are proficient with any one of these language, you can write all your Selenium Tests.
